What is Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a gentle, brain‑based therapy that helps your mind and body process and release stored emotional pain, trauma, and stress. It’s based on the idea that “where you look affects how you feel.” By using specific eye positions, mindful awareness, and a safe therapeutic relationship, Brainspotting helps access deeper parts of the brain where difficult experiences are held. As these areas are activated and supported, your system can naturally process, integrate, and heal at a pace that feels right for you.

The Process

In a Brainspotting session, we start by talking about what you’d like support with and what feels most present for you. Then, using gentle guidance, we find a “brainspot” — a specific eye position that seems connected to the feelings or sensations you’re noticing. You simply focus on that spot while we track your thoughts, emotions, and body responses together. There’s no pressure to talk a lot or “perform.” Your nervous system leads the way, and I stay with you, helping you stay grounded, safe, and supported as your brain processes what it’s ready to heal.

Benefits

Brainspotting can be helpful for people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by past experiences, even when they can’t fully put it into words. Many clients notice reduced anxiety, fewer trauma responses, and a greater sense of calm and clarity. It can support healing from trauma, grief, relationship pain, chronic stress, and patterns that feel hard to change. Over time, Brainspotting can help you feel more present in your life, more connected to yourself, and more able to respond rather than react when challenges arise.

FAQs

What kinds of issues can Brainspotting help with?

Brainspotting can support healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship struggles, performance blocks, and chronic stress. It’s also helpful if you feel “stuck” in talk therapy and want to go a bit deeper in a gentle, body-aware way.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. One of the strengths of Brainspotting is that you don’t have to retell or relive every detail of what happened. We focus more on your present-moment experience — your thoughts, emotions, and body sensations — while your brain does the deeper processing in the background.

How will I feel during and after a session?

Experiences vary. Some people feel calm or relieved, others feel emotional or tired afterward. You might notice shifts in your thoughts, dreams, or body sensations over the next few days. We’ll always move at a pace that feels safe for you and build in time to ground and settle before you leave.

Is Brainspotting right for me?

Brainspotting can be a good fit if you’re open to a more experiential, body-aware approach and want to work gently with deeper layers of your experience. In our work together, we can talk about your goals and decide if Brainspotting is a helpful option for you.
