At A Place of Solace, we believe that tending to your mental health is not just an act of survival, but it’s an act of love. It’s a return to yourself. This month, we want to guide this return to self-nurturing by breaking the stigma associated with mental health. Let’s center conversations around our well-being and remind ourselves and our communities that mental health is health. We want to remind you that your mental health matters. Your healing matters, and you are worthy of care.

For too long, mental health struggles have been hidden in the shadows, whispered about in shame, or dismissed altogether. But we are now beginning to understand that caring for our mental health is just as vital as caring for our bodies. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply navigating the daily stresses of life, everyone deserves compassion, support, and access to healing resources.
It is the stigma that has made mental health struggles feel like something to hide, especially in Black and Brown communities, where strength has been defined by silence or the ability to “ keep going”. But true strength looks like asking for help; true strength looks like community. It looks like resting when you’re tired. It looks like naming your feelings without shame.
Let’s renew our commitment to destigmatizing mental health. That looks like normalizing therapy, encouraging open dialogue in our families and circles, and uplifting culturally relevant care, especially in communities where stigma and systemic barriers have often been the highest.

As you move through this month, we invite you to do one thing to tend to your inner world. Maybe that’s reaching out to a therapist, pausing for breath between tasks, or maybe it’s giving yourself permission to feel what you feel. However small, each act is a seed of healing.
And for those of you in Southeastern North Carolina, we extend a special invitation: join us at the upcoming 1st Annual Black Mental Health Symposium. During the symposium, we will work to address the unique mental health needs within Black communities and foster spaces of learning, healing, and advocacy.
We would love to see you there! Breaking the Silence, connecting with Professionals, and building new paths toward wellness
Because you deserve solace. And you are not alone.
